Running the Dragon Tail!

Early morning run through the Connecticut River Conservancy trails, combining running and photography. Primarily made by mountain bikers, they’re great for walking and running as well. They create a spider’s web of paths in the approximately 325 combined acres with the adjoining Salmon River State Forest. I call this trail the Dragon Tail, for its eponymous shape and curvy-smooth bedrock outcroppings. The biggest hazards out there are not lions, tigers, or bears, but roots, rocks, and stumps. Trip on one of those unseen can result in an immediate face-plant, which has happened more than once. Still, the allure is great, the eyes are sharp, and the step is lively. With so many choices of where to go, rarely is a trip into the woods repetitive or boring. Cold weather months are especially good––no nasty biting flies or threatening ticks. I’m so glad the land is within walking (er, running) distance of home, so there’s no need to hop in the car. Just out the door, down the driveway, and off I go!Do you like running?
